Geometry Scrapbook
This week you will be creating a geometry scrapbook. The book needs to contain pictures of the specific items listed below. You can find the pictures you need in magazines, newspapers, ads, commercial packaging, and
the internet.
- Tape or glue the pictures neatly into a book.
- The pages can be stapled or put in a report cover.
- The pictures need to be clearly labeled.
COVER
Include your name, a title, and a geometric design that you construct. (5 points)
Section 1
2 points each, all measurements require units
- A triangle--Measure and record the length of all 3 sides and the degree measure of each angle.
- A rectangle--Measure and record the length of all 4 sides and the length of the diagonal.
- A circle--Measure the radius of the circle.
- A square--Measure and record the length of the side and the length of the diagonal.
- A trapezoid--Measure and record the lengths of all 4 sides and both diagonals.
- A hexagon--Measure each side length.
- An octagon--Measure each side length.
Section 2
3 points each--2 of which are for the explinations
- Parallel Lines--Find parallel lines that demonstrate function versus
design.
- Example: railroad tracks must be parallel. Explain the function of parallel lines in your photo.
- Perpendicular Lines--Find perpendicular lines that demonstrate the function of perpendicular lines.
- Explain the function of perpendicular lines in your photo.
Section 3
3 points each--1 of which is for the definition
- Congruent Shapes--Find congruent shapes that are not triangular.
- Example: a pair of socks.
- Write out the definition of 'congruent.'
- Similar Shapes--Find an example of similar shapes that are not congruent.
- Write out the definition of 'similar.'
Section 4
Symmetric Logo--label each logo with the type of symmetry it contains. 2 points each
- Find a company logo which contains rotational symmetry.
- Find a company logo which contains a line of symmetry.
- Find a company logo which does not contain symmetry.
Section 5
2 points each
Solids--Find and label an example of a
- sphere
- cylinder
- pyramid
- cone
- prism
Section 6
Geometric Sample--Find a photo/picture of something that you think relates to geometry. 5 points for the explanation.
- Explain what you think the connection is to geometry.
